Free VTuber Models: Premade & Customizable Live2D Avatars You Can Use Today
I know exactly why you’re here: you want to become a VTuber (or already are one), and that “dream” Live2D or 3D model costs way more than your streamer budget can handle right now.
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to spend a cent to get started. There are tons of independent creators giving away free VTuber models, both premade and customizable on Booth, Ko-fi, VGen, and even X. Today I’m sharing a curated selection so you can compare your options and find the free VTuber model that fits you best. Let’s get into it 💜
Before We Start: Premade vs. Customizable VTuber Models
In case you’re new to this, a quick breakdown of the two main types of free VTuber avatars:
- Premade: a finished model what you see is what you stream with. It’s the fastest option and usually the easiest to find for free, but you run the risk of running into “twins” streaming elsewhere with the exact same model.
- Customizable: the same base model, but with swappable parts (hairstyles, eyes, ears, outfits, accessories) so you can build a version that’s more “you.” It’s the sweet spot between “free” and “unique,” without paying full custom-model prices.
With that out of the way, let’s start with the premade options. 👇
FREE Premade VTuber Models You Can Use Right Now
I won’t overwhelm you with a hundred options, just a few solid picks so you get a feel for the quality level available for free.

kyokiStudio [Live2D model] Alexia
1. Alexia — kyokiStudio (Booth)
A complete moc3 file, ready to use and cleared for commercial use. One important note: this design isn’t exclusive, so more than one person is using this exact model out there. Still, if you want to start streaming today without spending anything, it’s a solid, well-finished option.

Model A-2 Traimu Koubou (とらいむ工房)
2. Model A-2 — Traimu Koubou (とらいむ工房) (Booth)
A Live2D model compatible with VTube Studio, with no preset name or personality, you decide who this character is. It even comes with a little bonus (a bunny mask). You can monetize content made with it, but you’re not allowed to directly edit the model’s data, and it can’t be used if you’re under contract with an agency or company. Credit to the creator is required.

Ice Girl – TianYeLuLu
3. Ice Girl — TianYeLuLu (Booth)
One of the most complete free models I found: 11 facial expressions, a hairstyle swap, a crown, ice wings, cat ears, and several animations (waving, winking, crying). Compatible with VTube Studio and free for commercial use. the only ask is that you credit the creator on your stream overlay or channel description. Note: limited to one download per person.
Free Customizable VTuber Models
This is where things get interesting. A free customizable VTuber model is a rare find, so let’s compare a few real options I tracked down, so you can see exactly how much customization each one offers.
| Model | Platform | What You Can Customize | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customizable Vtuber Model — AwkwardTobi | Ko-fi | A full Live2D sheep model, released to the public after the creator no longer wanted it for herself | Requires reassigning one specific parameter in VTube Studio |
| Starter Chibi ~ Free Version — Miss Akane | Ko-fi | Editable basic expressions + a sleep animation | This is a “trimmed down” version of the paid one; missing several features from the full release |
| Abandoned Bear Plushie (Customizable Colors) — seawaters | Booth | Free Live2D model with swappable color palettes (the only listing with this name in the shop, so it’s easy to find) | Customization is limited to color palette only, no swappable parts like hair or outfits |
As you can see, there’s a clear pattern: a lot of creators offer a free “trial” version of their customizable model with fewer features than the paid one, while others release blank bases meant for you to add your own artwork to. None of these options is perfect, but if you’re starting with zero budget, any one of these four free VTuber avatars is a solid launching point.
What You’ll Find on X (Twitter)
X is still a key place to find free VTuber models, though it’s not always easy to track down since resources come and go with the tweets. A few things worth searching for:
- Compilation threads: every so often, someone in the community puts together a massive document listing dozens (or hundreds) of free models, with direct links to each one. For example, this thread by Mairi Sagi rounds up 250 free-to-use VTuber avatars in a single Google Doc. Search hashtags like
#VTuberAssets,#VTuberSupport, or#VtuberEScombined with “free.” - Custom model giveaways: several Live2D artists run giveaways from time to time (follow + retweet, sometimes submit your OC) to give away a fully custom model. It’s not guaranteed or constant, but if you follow artists active in the VTuber scene, you’ll eventually run into one.
- Creator self-promotion: many artists announce their free releases on X first, before Booth or Ko-fi, so following your favorite artists is a passive way to catch these drops early.
Tip: save those compilation threads as soon as you see them. Content on X gets buried fast, and those documents tend to disappear from your timeline within days.
One Place to Keep Track of It All
If after all this you feel like it’s a lot to track down on your own, you’re not alone. That’s why at pixvt we built a directory of free resources for VTubers that we update regularly: Live2D and 3D models, overlays, emotes, and stream tools, all made by independent creators. Every card links straight to the original creator’s page, because that’s where you should download from{ and if it helped you, that’s where to leave a tip if you can
Before You Go
A free model doesn’t mean “no rules.” Every creator sets their own terms of use (credit requirements, whether monetization is allowed, whether you can edit it or not), so take two minutes to read them before downloading. It’s the simplest way to look out for the people who make this hobby accessible for everyone.
And remember: your first VTuber model doesn’t have to be your forever model. Start with what’s within reach, stream, have fun and when the time (and budget) comes, you’ll know exactly what style you want for version 2.0.
Have you already used one of these free VTuber models, or do you have another one hiding somewhere? Let me know! I’d love to add it to the list! ✨
